From campus lab to start-up and beyond: The role of intellectual property in entrepreneurship
Panel Discussion/Presentation
Intellectual property protection was included in the US Constitution in 1789 because of its perceived importance in promoting economic prosperity for the new country. Intellectual property law has evolved since then, including provisions to promote the commercialization of federally funded research at universities. This presentation introduces several types of intellectual property, describes how patents generally promote investment in technology and product development and then looks specifically at the commercialization of university research.

Senior Design Night
Exhibition
Senior Design Night is USU's largest student innovation and technology expo. During their senior year, students spend about 400 hours designing and building capstone projects that address real-world engineering problems. Students showcase their projects at this free, family-fun event with hands-on demonstrations and activities for all ages.

The USU Student Association American Lung Cancer Screening Initiative Club is hosting a 1 mile, 5K, and 10K run/walk in conjunction with the iHelp Foundation. All proceeds go towards our health and education programming for communities in Uganda, Liberia, and Guatemala, as well as refugees and abuse victims in Cache Valley. Drones (UAV / UAS) have revolutionized data collection for environmental restoration. Master data collection, processing, and analysis using drones in this 4-day shortcourse. Students will learn how to collect and analyze data for multiple restoration applications, including wildlife, forest, rangeland, and river systems. Data analysis focuses on the visible, thermal, and multi-spectral sensors commonly mounted on drones and includes photogrammetry, change detection, and classification modeling.

Each spring USU Physics Day at Lagoon offers the chance for thousands of middle school and high school students to gather at Utah’s largest amusement park to “do physics”. The USU Physics Department, the Idaho National Laboratory, and a host of STEM sponsors organize a wide variety of physics-based contests and activities at all levels centered around amusement park physics.

Aerodynamics of Supersonic Flight: Our final event in the Spring 2024 Engineer in Residence Program. Explore the aerodynamic principles that allow us to evaluate aircraft flying faster than the speed of sound. Plus, USU will unveil plans for an exciting new exhibit at The Leonardo, showcasing supersonic aviation. Hands-on demonstrations, free food, and more.
