Aviation Week Day One - Helicopter Day

USU Aviation Technology will be starting off its Aviation Week with a helicopter landing on the northwest corner of the quad at 10:20am. Come and watch the landing, stay for questions, and then watch it take off at 1:30. Free to the public!
Aviation Week Annual Banquet and Silent Auction

Come celebrate the Flying Aggies at the annual Aviation Program Banquet at the Logan-Cache Airport. Join us for a big Flying Aggie Reunion Celebration where we will recognize our outstanding students and raise scholarship funds with any items you can donate for our silent auction. Three years ago we raised over $2,500 for our students with donated items such as airplane models, discovery flights, historical and aviation-themed items. Dinner is $15 for our students and faculty, $10 for youth under 16, and $25 for all others. All paid guests will receive the 2024 annual program coin! Dress is business casual (open-collar, nice pants, coat and tie are optional). We will have a guest speaker, celebrate our 85th Anniversary of Aviation degree at USU with a display, and have opportunities to fellowship with current students and alumni. We will be honoring our top students and present some financial student achievement awards.

USU Eastern’s Library & Learning Commons and the English Department present the first The Nighthawk Review Night. The Nighthawk Review is USU Eastern’s student literary magazine. Each year, students are invited to submit their original short stories, poems, and plays for an opportunity to be featured in this publication. Please join us at the Library & Learning Commons on Tuesday, April 2nd at 6:00pm, along with Dr. Jason Olsen and current and past editors to celebrate this statewide journal.
This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.
Caine Ensembles

The Caine Ensembles concert, presented twice a year, showcases some of USU's finest musicians. Come enjoy top-tier chamber music performed by the Caine Brass Quintet, Caine Percussion Ensemble, Caine Saxophone Quartet, Caine String Quartet, and Caine Woodwind Quintet.

USU Aviation Technology Aviation Week continues with UAS (Drone) demonstrations on the east side of the Quad. Come see large drones, small drones, fast drones, and the skills USU UAS Students possess flying them. In case of inclement weather, they will move to the Sunburst Lounge in the Taggart Student Center

USU Aviation Technology Aviation Week will be highlighting the program that started it all at USU 85 years ago: AVIATION MAINTENANCE! Tours of our aviation maintenance facility in the USU TECH Building including the only jet engine test cell based at a university in Utah and in the region.
In the Industrial Science Building we will have tours of our aircraft simulators students use to advance their training, and we'll have a drone simulator you can try as well.

You will tour USU Flight training facilities, hangars, and the fixed-wing and rotary aircraft we use for training. Students and staff will be available for any questions you may have. Welcome to Scenario B: Lessons in survival from our national parks About the Lecture: My presentation will highlight three projects spanning my 30-year career in the National Park Service. Each project involves aspects of indigenous knowledge, science, and rational planning (endangered species management in Hawaii, river restoration at Olympic National Park, and subsistence management national parks in the Arctic region). I'll highlight the resulting exigent questions of policy and federal land management that are driven by our rapidly changing climate. I'll close with personal observations and lessons learned. Speaker Bio: M. Sarah Creachbaum currently serves as the regional director for the National Park Service Alaska Region in Anchorage, Alaska. Creachbaum has served as a national park superintendent since 2006, first at War in the Pacific National Historical Park in Guam, then at Haleakala National Park, and at Olympic National Park, where she led the Elwha River Restoration Project, the largest dam removal and river restoration in the United States. She has also served in numerous temporary assignments including Superintendent of Grand Canyon National Park, acting Deputy

What is "our music"? As an institution in the intermountain West, USU is located in a place associated with many different kinds of music. The decisions we make about which of these we foreground have profound implications. What do our students deserve to learn? Which faculty have the responsibility—or the right—to teach each repertoire? And how, as a university, do we define the collective “us” we seek to serve? Dr. Megan Lavengood is an Associate Professor and Area Director of Music Theory at George Mason University, where she teaches undergraduate core theory and graduate courses in advanced theory topics. Her research primarily deals with popular music, timbre, synthesizers, and recording techniques. She has also published on video game music, music theory pedagogy, and public music theory.

Set to be the largest event within the College of Engineering, attendees can expect a showcase of unparalleled talent and innovation. Spectators will be captivated by an impressive display of engineering strength and technical prowess through a variety of large-scale competitions, including Steel Bridge, Timber Strong, and the always thrilling Concrete Canoe races. Attendees will also showcase their knowledge in Sustainable Solutions, Surveying, Construction Institute, Transportation, Environmental Design, and the engaging Concrete Bowling.
All events are scheduled to take place on campus, except canoe races will be held at the picturesque Hyrum Reservoir.

Prospero uses magic to conjure a storm and torment the survivors of a shipwreck, including the King of Naples and Prospero’s treacherous brother, Antonio. Prospero’s slave, Caliban, plots to rid himself of his master, but is thwarted by Prospero’s spirit-servant Ariel. The King’s young son Ferdinand, thought to be dead, falls in love with Prospero’s daughter Miranda. Come experience the intrigue, the magic, and see for yourself how all will resolve.

Weber County 4-H Cooking Challenge

A team of two members or an individual contestant will prepare and complete a dish highlighting the challenge ingredient. Dish must be completed and presented to the judges within a 40-minute timeframe. Contestants must prepare one complete plates of the dish for the judges. Contestants can prepare an appetizer, main course or a dessert. Contestants will have up to 3 minutes to: • describe the dish presented • tell how they highlighted the challenge ingredient • share some facts/knowledge about the challenge ingredient. Entries: Contestants may enter as an individual or a team of two. State level competition is open to only intermediate (6th-8th graders) and Senior (9th-12th graders) 4-H members at the state level. All grades divisions are as of Sept. 1 of each 4-H year.

Hangar Hop

The USU Flight Team and Aviation Technology will be hosting the annual Hangar Hop on April 13, 2024 from 7pm-11pm at the large USU Hangar FL9. The aircraft hangar will be transformed into a 1940's USO style hangar with live band music, a large 60' parachute overhead, and vintage aircraft for photos. Dress in period costume! Cost is $15 per person. All proceeds go to support the USU Flight Team's participation in regional competition. Light refreshments are provided. COME DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY!

Weber County 4-H Horse Hippology Contest

Join us on April 15, 22, and 20 at 7pm for the Horse Hippology Contest. Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members, by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly but competitive setting. The Hippology Contest has four (4) different phases: Examination, Station, Judging, and Team Problem 1. A team consists of no more than four (4) contestants. On teams consisting of four members, all will compete; however, the lowest score in each phase will be dropped. For those teams consisting of three members, all members' scores will count in determining individual and team awards. 2. Teams will be compete in their 4-H age divisions 3. Junior and Intermediate teams may be comprised of mixed 4-H ages. Mixed teams will compete in the division of their oldest member (3 juniors and 1 intermediate will be considered an intermediate team). Senior teams must only consist of senior aged youth for 4-H teams.

Utahns’ Perceptions of the Challenges Facing Women and Girls

During the fall of 2023, Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) researchers conducted a statewide study to establish a baseline of public perceptions related to the awareness, understanding, and attitudes around challenges facing Utah women and girls. The 80-question survey provided baseline data needed by leaders of A Bolder Way Forward (BWF) and all Utahns interested in helping ensure that Utah girls and women better thrive. This webinar will highlight many of the results. The survey focused on the following areas: education (finance, higher education attainment, and K-12 initiatives); community engagement (political representation, boards and commissions, and civic engagement/ advocacy); safety and security (child sexual abuse, domestic violence, poverty and homelessness, sexual assault, and sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination); health and wellbeing (health across the lifespan and home and family); and workplace (childcare/pre-K programs, entrepreneurship, gender pay gap, leadership development, organizational strategies and workplace culture, STEM fields, and workforce development).

Concerts are part of the band large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. Intersections of Practice: A Candid Conversation on Career Paths About the Lecture: What inspires you and drives your future career path? How does that inspired career intersect with your personal life? In this dialog, we’ll look at the differences between public and private sector practice in Landscape Architecture through a project-focused lens. Creasey will focus on providing transparent information and a wide variety of example projects to help new graduates make informed decisions about their future careers. Speaker Bio: Chris Creasey is a Landscape Architect with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District focused on large-scale interdisciplinary civil works and military projects throughout the Midwest and Mountain West. His practice includes work on tribal partnership lands bordering USACE managed waterways, interagency projects for NPS, Fish & Wildlife, and the Department of Energy, and stormwater management and master planning for seven military installations spanning five states. Chris began his career at Sasaki Associates in Boston where his practice included all phases of design, from planning to construction administration at a variety of scales.

Weber County 4-H Fashion Review

This contest is open to youth in 3rd to 12th grade, at the county level and state level . All divisions: Junior (3rd-5th graders), Intermediate (6th- 8th graders) and Senior (9th- 12th graders) are based on Sept. 1 of the current 4-H year. Only Senior division youth can compete at the national level. We will be judging the sewing construction as well as modeling for the constructed/modified division on the state level. If the contest ends up being a virtual event, we will only judge the modeling and interview. At the national level they only judge the modeling and interview. National level only allows you to compete in one division. Youth can compete in 2 different divisions and will be judged separately. AFCO: The Restoration - An Oratoria by Merrill Bradshaw with the Logan Institute Singers

Merrill Bradshaw was one of the most celebrated Utah composers of the 20th Century. As professor of composition at Brigham Young University, he composed in all genres of classical music. His magnum opus, The Restoration, which premiered 50 years ago, is written for large symphonic chorus, chamber choir, solo vocal quartet, and symphony orchestra. It is considered the culmination of his life's work as a composer. For ages 8+.

Weber County 4-H Horse Hippology Contest
Workshop/Training | Utah 4-H and Youth
Join us on April 15, 22, and 20 at 7pm for the Horse Hippology Contest. Hippology is an activity that can make learning fun for 4-H members, by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a friendly but competitive setting. The Hippology Contest has four (4) different phases: Examination, Station, Judging, and Team Problem 1. A team consists of no more than four (4) contestants. On teams consisting of four members, all will compete; however, the lowest score in each phase will be dropped. For those teams consisting of three members, all members' scores will count in determining individual and team awards. 2. Teams will be compete in their 4-H age divisions 3. Junior and Intermediate teams may be comprised of mixed 4-H ages. Mixed teams will compete in the division of their oldest member (3 juniors and 1 intermediate will be considered an intermediate team). Senior teams must only consist of senior aged youth for 4-H teams.
