The Springboard to Action! Series events are yearly workshops sponsored by Empowering Teaching Excellence in the Office of the Provost. These workshops are designed for USU instructors to dedicate the day and implement a practice in their teaching that they had been planning on doing. Each Springboard workshop has a different theme. This year's Springboard to Action Series event is on building a better syllabus starting from picking your IDEA objectives to unmasking the hidden syllabus. Participants will be presented with several short ignition ideas by facilitators, participate in breakouts, evaluate and make changes to their syllabus, and receive feedback from their group and designated facilitator.

Weber County 4-H Skill-A-Thon and Consumer Decision Making

This is an overall contest that covers skills and knowledge gained by participating in all aspects of the Family Consumer Science project. The first part is an identification of 3 areas: Clothing & Sewing, Foods & Cooking Interior Design & Home Repairs. Then take a 25-question quiz on all the definitions and for the three identification area study materials, and finally, as a team, you give a 5-minute oral presentation from a selected life skill assessment topics. This is a super fun contest and we hope you all participate in these contests.

Trans Allies on Campus Training

Trans/Nonbinary Allies on Campus aims to increase awareness and understanding of our trans/nonbinary community and further understand specific trans/nonbinary issues while training participants to stand with, and advocate for trans/nonbinary individuals. Participants will gain a basic understanding of sex, sexuality, and gender and how these concepts perpetuate microaggressions, discrimination policies, and daily biases. Prepare to dispel some common myths, laugh, and leave with the understanding that there is much work to be done in our community and you are part of the solution. CIDI Workshop - AI in Teaching: Basics
Workshop/Training
In this workshop, we discuss the basics of generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, as they pertain to higher education. Specifically, we'll seek to address what they are capable of and the various ways teachers can choose to approach them in their classes. We'll discuss syllabus language, AI detection tools, and ways to encourage students to think critically, use AI responsibly, and demonstrate their own capabilities. We'll also share some ideas and examples of AI as a teaching tool.
Lunch & Learn - Preventing Injury in the Garden

USU Be Well and Extension professor, Gabi Murza, present a lunch and learn on tips to prevent injuries while gardening. Whether you garden for work or fun, you may have experienced aches and pains afterwards that went away quickly or persisted for some time. In this session, you’ll learn how to prevent injury and minimize pain/soreness by using best practices for gardening, practicing proper posture and use of tools, and incorporating stretches into your gardening routine. Even though it’s a virtual session, you’ll be encouraged to follow along with videos showing these movements, so wear comfortable shoes! *Presentation will be recorded. Attendance and participation in this event qualify as an activity for the Be Well Rewards program.
