Black Hair and Story Telling as a Form of Social Activism

Artist St. Clair Detrick-Jules will discuss what she learned through an almost four-year-long journey photographing and interviewing 101 Black women with natural hair for her photojournalism book, My Beautiful Black Hair: 101 Natural Hair Stories from the Sisterhood, a large-scale visual anthropology exploring the deep, complex relationships across generations between Black women and their hair that Kirkus Reviews calls “compelling and inspirational...a powerful celebration of self-acceptance and sisterhood.”

LGBT+ Allies on Campus Training
Workshop/Training
In this fast pace two hour training, participants will learn about microaggressions, terminology, and key issues that impact the LGBT+ community. Participants will have the opportunity to sign an allies pledge and receive an ally sticker. Registration is required to receive the zoom link.
Salsa & Salsa
Arts/Entertainment
The Latin Dance Club, in collaboration with the Honors Program, will be hosting a salsa dance class with a salsa competition. Students are welcome to sign up to make a salsa and enter into a competition. Students are also welcome to come, learn how to dance salsa, and taste test for the competition.
Life of a Latinx Leader
Cultural | Diversity, equity, and Inclusion
Join us for "Life of a Latinx Leader," a monthly event featuring informal talks by exceptional Latinx leaders. This month, Andy Gongora, an academic advisor at USU, will share his story about immigrating to the U.S. from Mexico as a young child, along with his academic and mental health struggles. Trans Allies on Campus Training
Workshop/Training
Trans/Nonbinary Allies on Campus aims to increase awareness and understanding of our trans/nonbinary community and further understand specific trans/nonbinary issues while training participants to stand with, and advocate for trans/nonbinary individuals. Participants will gain a basic understanding of sex, sexuality, and gender and how these concepts perpetuate microaggressions, discrimination policies, and daily biases. Prepare to dispel some common myths, laugh, and leave with the understanding that there is much work to be done in our community and you are part of the solution. Colorblind Universities and the Future of Higher Education

In June 2023, the United States Supreme Court eliminated race-based affirmative action at colleges and universities – a decades-long battle and an extension of the debate over diversity, equity, and inclusion on campuses across the country. So, where does the relationship between race and higher education go from here? In "Colorblind Universities and the Future of Higher Education," Dr. Brandon James Render provides historical context for the recent Supreme Court decision and the deeper implications it has for colleges and universities beyond admissions. In the process, he illuminates how students, faculty, and administrators have responded to overcome similar assaults on accessibility, equity, and justice
