The Last Glacier Collective is a collaboration of artists that work to present their concern for the global future through artistic imagery. Their new large-scale art book Sentinels: The Pinon Pine and Juniper Trees of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments has just been released. Sentinels includes 12 large woodcuts by artists Todd Anderson and Bruce Crownover and three “word paintings” by scientist Gary Machlis. The artists are excited to display Sentinels in the region that inspired its creation, reinforcing that the arts and sciences can further engage the public with the natural and cultural heritage of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. Previous works by the Last Glacier Collective are in the collections of the Getty Museum, Yale and Stanford Universities, the U.S. Library of Congress, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, among many others.

The primary purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuers and First Aid course is to instruct those who have a duty to act (professional rescuers) in the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to first aid, breathing, and cardiac emergencies. Please join us for our seventh coding workshop in our new coding workshop series on Tuesday March 14th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM MT in NR 217. This workshop is for folks who are interested in getting introduced to the basics of the cloud-based remote sensing platform Google Earth Engine (GEE). GEE is a powerful tool for research, providing access to massive open-source spatial datasets (e.g. satellite imagery, climate, topography, land use/landcover, among many others), with access to Google's high power computing resources to perform complex analyses. This workshop will cover: a) What is GEE and how does it differ from other GIS platforms? b) Intro to JavaScript and the GEE API c) Importing and visualizing a satellite image d) Importing, filtering, and visualizing image collections e) Accessing information about datasets

Over the course of four sessions, participants will learn how to set up
a welder for GMAW/FCAW, apply basic troubleshooting techniques,
use basic shop tools and machinery, and will be introduced to
entry-level fabrication techniques. Students will complete a small
project by the end of the course to take home with them.

The Tenuous Renaissance in Playscape Design In recent years, the U.S. has undergone a renaissance in playscape design. Those designing and commissioning playgrounds are increasingly moving away from static pole and platform structures that provide little play value and even less challenge. While safety is still one of the major drivers of playground design, there is an increasing understanding that not all risks can or should be limited--and some are beneficial. The adventure playground--where children build their own environments with hammers and saws--has made a bit of a comeback, and loose parts are being embraced on a wider scale. Innovative climbing features let children climb higher, farther, and in more social ways--while limiting falls from high places. And designers are increasingly bringing nature into playscapes--which has positive impacts on children's health and well-being. In this presentation, Daniel Jost will discuss the playscape renaissance taking place, some of the playscapes he documented as a writer at Landscape Architecture Magazine, and his own efforts to support thoughtful playscapes and outdoor learning environments.

Our day will consist of four main workshops, each one correlating to a department in the college of engineering (Mechanical and Aerospace, Electrical and Computer, Civil and Environmental, and Biological), a campus tour, and a lot of fun!
Parents or guardians are required for check-in and pick-up but are not needed for the duration of the event.

Peacebuilding in Yemen: Challenges & Opportunities

How are Yemenis pursuing peace and justice in the aftermath of conflict and Yemen’s civil war? What were the effects of the 2022 cease fire? Featuring author Stacey Philbrick Yadav,an Associate professor of International Relations at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. She is the author of two books, Islamists and the State and Yemen in the Shadow of Transition: Pursuing Justice Amid War. Since 2019, she has been working with Yemeni colleagues on internationally sponsored projects for everyday peacebuilding in Yemen.

Over the course of four sessions, participants will learn how to set up
a welder for GMAW/FCAW, apply basic troubleshooting techniques,
use basic shop tools and machinery, and will be introduced to

Managing Muddy Methods As climate-induced shifts make our coastal environments increasingly volatile and unpredictable, establishing new ways of working that move beyond the tried-and-true assumptions that past observations provide accurate examples for future conditions has become necessary. This becomes even more prescient when considering the objectives of designing or engineering with nature as opposed to simply protecting ourselves against it. Experimentation and contextual knowledge are finding new applications where once we relied on established and universal standards of best practice. With a focus on liminal coastal environments of both fresh and salt water, this talk will span a range of recent design work, organized around the subject of landscape research methods and this role of experimentation.

Our training series will feature speakers who specialize in supporting mental health and trauma in schools and higher education settings. Visit NEHMA for The Art of Fashion! An exhibition of half-scale fashion created by USU students in the Advanced Clothing Studies: Pattern Making (FCSE 3040) taught by professor Melissa Clark. Each design was inspired by a work of art on view at NEHMA.
The opening reception will be held on March 31st from 5:00 - 6:30 PM at NEHMA.
The designs will available to view following the reception in the Object Study Center through the rest of the 2023 Spring Semester.
Women's History Month Gala
Ceremony/Awards/Celebration
Join us in celebration of Women's History Month! This event will honor change makers at USU, recognize Triota Honor Society Inductees, and celebrate the 20-year anniversary of the Sexual Assault & Anti-Violence Information (SAAVI) Office. Dinner will be served, followed by an award ceremony. Formal attire is encouraged. This event is open to everyone, but an RSVP is required. We encourage you to reserve your spot before Friday, March 24th.
