Entrepreneur Leadership Series: Lloyd Roberts

Lloyd Roberts is a dedicated husband, father, and serial entrepreneur who loves business and investing. Before cofounding his billion-dollar company, Lloyd had many ups and downs as an entrepreneur, with each new venture teaching him valuable lessons for the future. In 2021, his tech company was recognized by Inc. 5000 as the 21st fastest-growing software company in the country. Lloyd has been nominated for several awards, including the WIN100 (Top 100 Entrepreneurs) and the Mountain West EY Entrepreneur of the Year. Lloyd champions the idea of living an intentional life, where life happens for you, not to you. He hopes to inspire others by sharing his discovery of a personal fulfillment formula that can be used by anyone to become truly fulfilled.

Utah State Athletics will host the event at the Larry and Lindi Miller Champions Club at the West Stadium Center and will begin at 6:30 pm (doors open at 6:00 pm). Multifarious Trio Concert

Multifarious is an international trio featuring Scottish saxophonist Sue McKenzie, Kansas cellist Susan Mayo, and Colorado banjoist Paul Elwood. Their music has been described as "Bela Fleck meets the Art Ensemble of Chicago." From jazz and avant-garde via deconstructed bluegrass, the trio weaves inventive improvisations amongst diverse sounds. They have been featured on BBC Radio 3 "Freeness" and their debut album, Incidents, was released in February 2021. Notable performances include Le Jam and Le Corbusier (Marseille, France), the Katowice JazzArt Festival (Poland), Broadcast (Glasgow, Scotland), WUTC Radio, Barking Legs, and Cadek Hall (Chattanooga), the Kontesa Jazz Club (Zagreb, Croatia) and the Riney Fine Arts Center (Wichita).

Men's Basketball Coaches Luncheon

Join head coach Ryan Odom and other members of the Utah State Men's Basketball coaching staff and team as they break down recent matchups and answer your questions about the state of the program. This luncheon's special guest will be Gymnastics Head Coach, Kristin White. Each luncheon, which is sponsored by America First Credit Union, will be held on the third floor of the West Stadium Center in the Larry & Lindi Miller Champions Club. Food is served at 11:45 a.m. and the program begins at noon. The cost to attend each luncheon is $15 for those who pre-purchase tickets online and $20 at the door. A meal is included for all events.

“Dark Winds Rising” – Logan Canyon Winds

Logan Canyon Winds present a program of contrasting moods; at the center of the recital is Philip Bimstein’s Dark Winds Rising, a musical reflection on the plan to build a toxic waste incinerator on Native American lands, featuring recorded voices of impacted individuals. Other selections on the program include Debussy’s classic “Girl with the Flaxen Hair,” Deslandres’ beautiful Quintet, and a new arrangement of Bartok’s Transylvanian Dances by Logan Canyon Winds’ own Lauren Hunt. The program also features the hopeful and energetic Quintet No. 1 by Giuseppe Cambini.
This concert will be livestreamed on the CCA YouTube channel.

Entrepreneur Leadership Series: Reverend Jay and Toni Ragsdale

Reverend Jay was born in Bakersfield, California. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from the University of Wyoming. After “horsing around” for several years, he accepted the call from God to minister to His people. Eventually he came to Utah in search of his brother who was homeless. A year after his brother had died, Jay set out for Pioneer Park on a mission to assist the homeless with a bible and a box of donuts. Fill The Pot Ministry now feeds around 400 people every week in the heart of Salt Lake City, and also provides clothing, shoes, coats, hygiene items, food boxes, and spiritual guidance.
Toni was born in Chicago, Illinois, in an area full of crime and poverty. She works full time as the manager of the Customer Service Department of Insure-Rite for the State of Utah. She is also the co-director of Fill The Pot Ministry and plays a major role to make sure the organization’s doors are always open. Toni was the Director of the Women Ministry at Calvary Baptist Church for nine years. In 2019, she received the Humans Rights Award from the Church Women United Organization. Toni thrives from waking up each day with new opportunities to be used by God. “Being available” is her motto.

As an Iranian-American woman, Talepasand explores the cultural taboos that reflect on gender and political authority. Her approach to figuration reflects the cross-pollination, or lack thereof, in our Western Society.

Gabriel Kovach, born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania, is active as both a chamber and orchestral musician. Mr. Kovach has been Principal Horn of the Phoenix Symphony since 2006. Previously, he has held positions as both the Principal Horn of the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia and the Opera Company of Philadelphia.

The Tenuous Renaissance?in Playscape Design
In recent?years, the U.S. has undergone a renaissance in playscape design. Those designing and commissioning playgrounds are increasingly moving away from static pole and platform structures that provide?little play value and even less challenge. While safety is still one of the major drivers of playground?design, there?is an increasing understanding that not all risks can or should be limited--and some are beneficial. The adventure playground--where children build their own environments with hammers and saws--has made a bit of a comeback, and loose parts are being embraced on a wider scale. Innovative climbing features let children climb higher, farther, and in more social?ways--while limiting falls from high places. And designers are increasingly bringing nature into playscapes--which has positive?impacts on children's?health and well-being.?
In this presentation, Daniel Jost will discuss the playscape renaissance taking place, some of the playscapes he documented as a writer at Landscape Architecture Magazine, and his own efforts to support thoughtful playscapes and outdoor learning environments.

Science Unwrapped: Computing with Honeybees

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the public outreach program of USU's College of Science. Admission is free. Our Feb. 10 speaker is USU computer scientist Vladimir Kulyukin, who presents "Music, Traffic, Solar Harvests: Computing with Honeybees" at 7 pm in the Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU Logan campus. Dr. Kulyukin will speak for about half an hour and then invite questions from the audience. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments and hands-on STEM learning activities provided by student and community groups in the ESLC atrium. Getting data organized is a key first step of any research project, and this workshop is for folks who want to learn easy and quick data manipulation and wrangling tools from the tidyverse() package (including the %>% function), and those who are curious about the R visualization capabilities of ggplot(). Jess Larsen founded the Graystoke Group, a holding company that owns three businesses. The first, Graystoke Investments, is a commercial real estate fund focused on one-of-a-kind Airbnb resorts for action sports families near snowboarding mountains, surfing beaches, and national parks. The second, Graystoke Advisors, is a management consulting firm with special operations soldiers who teach leadership classes. The third, Graystoke Media, makes videos and podcasts for some of the largest media companies in the world, as well as for CEO’s and Investment Fund Managers. Jess completed the Harvard Business School program on Private Equity and Venture Capital before becoming the CEO of his last investment fund. He also hosts the podcast “The Jess Larsen Show on Innovation & Leadership,” where he has interviewed over 750 billionaires, movie stars, pro athletes, unicorn tech founders, and many other high achievers.

Concerts are part for the band large ensembles curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. All concerts are associated with one or more of the following band ensembles MUSC 4700 Wind Orchestra, MUSC 795 Wind Symphony, MUSC 3790 Symphonic band, MUSC 3785 Marching Band.

Since winning his first major international competition at age 13, pianist Alexander Malofeev has captured the world’s attention. Now 21 years old, Malofeev regularly performs with top orchestras around the world, garnering critical praise for his technical prowess and emotional maturity. A first-time Wassermann Series artist, Malofeev’s program includes Beethoven’s enchanting “Moonlight” Sonata, Polish composer Mieczslaw Weinberg’s B Minor Sonata, and Rachmaninoff’s sweeping Piano Sonata No. 2.

Feminist Killjoy in the Workplace: Sara Ahmed

To be a feminist killjoy (or another kind of institutional killjoy) means not only confronting institutional problems but challenging how institutions use our efforts to change them as evidence they have changed. The lecture explores how being feminist killjoys at work means recognizing that the figure of the feminist killjoy can be appropriated and neutralized. Being feminist killjoys at work also requires finding other institutional killjoys, because the more we come up against, the more we need more.

In this lecture I explore what we come to know about institutions from our efforts to transform them. I will draw especially on two chapters “The Feminist Killjoy as Philosopher” and “The Feminist Killjoy as Activist,” from my forthcoming The Feminist Killjoy Handbook. An eagerly awaited tradition around the Music Department is our series of monthly jam sessions, in which a guest artist (or two or three) from outside Cache Valley visits to perform jazz standards with USU students and community members in a relaxed environment. Come and sit in on a tune, or just sit back, relax, and enjoy the music. Jam sessions are completely unscripted, so you never know what exactly will happen, but it’s great fun watching musicians perform without a net!

Debunking Diet Culture
Workshop/Training
Diet culture tells us that our appearance and body shape are more important than physical, psychological, and general well-being. It's the idea that controlling your body, particularly your diet—by limiting what and how much you eat—is normal. This workshop will explore the harmful effects of diet culture, debunk the myths it tells us about our food and bodies, and how to take of ourselves in a world surrounded with diet culture.

Welcome to Scenario B: Lessons in survival from our national parks. My presentation will highlight three projects spanning my 30-year career in the National Park Service. Each project involves aspects of indigenous knowledge, science, and rational planning (endangered species management in Hawaii, river restoration at Olympic National Park, and subsistence management national parks in the Arctic region. I'll highlight the resulting exigent questions of policy and federal land management that are driven by our rapidly changing climate. I'll close with personal observations and lessons learned.

Concerts are part of the band large ensemble curriculum. As capstone events, they typically occur twice per semester. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals. Ecology Center Workshop: For-loops and Functions

Please join us for our sixth coding workshop in the Ecology Center's coding workshop series on Tuesday February 28th from 3:00 - 5:00 PM MT. In this workshop, we'll go over a few programming concepts to make your coding more efficient, less error prone, and more readable. In particular, we'll cover iteration using loops and the *apply() family of functions and writing our own functions. This workshop will cover: Writing for-loops Writing custom functions The pros and cons of for-loops vs the *apply family of functions Combining iteration and custom functions for common data processing tasks
USU Tooele Campus Tours

Join our local Admissions Specialist Mike Booth for tours of the USU Tooele campus facilities and to learn more about college in Tooele. Tours last approximately 30-40 minutes and all guests will receive free Aggie Ice Cream on providing contact information for the university. Tours may be given offered the main building or the Science and Technology Building depending on timing and building availability.

The Latin Dance Club in collaboration with the Honors Program will be hosting a salsa dance class with a salsa competition. Students are welcome to sign up to make a salsa and enter into a competition. Students are also welcome to come, learn how to dance salsa, and taste test for the competition.
