3rd Annual Indigenous Knowledge Symposium

Conference/Seminar

The MESAS Indigenous Knowledge Symposium invites scholars to share their research, insights, and experiences working across various scientific disciplines. It is our hope that this annual symposium provides USU students, staff, faculty, and our larger community with an understanding of the critical role that Indigenous perspectives hold in the future of research and education.
This year we have invited three Indigenous scholars to share their knowledge.
Dr. Andrea Reid is an Assistant Professor of Indigenous Fisheries at The University of British Columbia. Dr. Melinda Adams is an Assistant Professor in Indigenous Studies and Geography & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Kansas. Finally, Dr. Karlatta Chief is a professor of Environmental Science at the University of Arizona.

Workshop/Training

NOTE: This workshop is now full. We will be offering more workshops soon!

Over the course of four sessions, participants will learn how to set up

use basic shop tools and machinery, and will be introduced to
entry-level fabrication techniques. Students will complete a small
project by the end of the course to take home with them.
We are excited to educate and support women in the trades, and hope
you will join us for lots of fun and real-world learning!

LAEP Speaker Series: Anna Cawrse and Joshua Brooks

Lecture/Readings

Leading with Landscape

Anna Cawrse and Josh Brooks will explore how leading with landscape lets Sasaki tackle some of the most complex and challenging urban design and landscape architecture projects across the world. By starting with environmental systems as the driving framework, they will explore the urban constraints at Denargo Market in Denver, CO; how to create a more ecologically resilient future for University Lakes in Baton Rouge, LA; how to transform abandoned infrastructure in Athens, Greece into Europe's largest urban waterfront park; and how research can help cities and parks tackle climate change.
