Utah State Theatre Season Opens With Poignancy

The 2006-07 Utah State Theatre season at Utah State University opens the year with a play of poignancy, “All My Sons,” written by recently deceased playwright Arthur Miller, who production director Kevin Doyle considers “a master in the field of play writing.”

All My Sons is presented at the Caine Lyric Theatre (28 W. Center St.) Sept. 28-30 and Oct. 4-7. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m., and ticket prices range from $6 to $9. USU students with valid ID are admitted at no change, but tickets are required. Tickets for Utah State Theatre productions are available at the USU Ticket Office in the Smith Spectrum and at the event location 30 minutes prior to curtain.

Written in 1967, All My Sons has been the subject of reviews and critiques for 60 years, and to Doyle, the play maintains two points of note. First, people have a wider responsibility to the society in which they live. The second deals with the ideal of the American dream.

“Many people consider the American dream being a self-made individual who finds himself or herself in a position of financial comfort, authority and power,” Doyle said. “All My Sons shows how hollow that dream can be.”
