USU President Sends Staff and Faculty a Guide to Assist Students in Distress

With growing awareness about the prevalence of mental health issues and sexual violence on college campuses, many staff and faculty have asked how they can best respond to distressed or disruptive students.

USU offers numerous confidential and non-confidential services to help students work through personal trauma or problems so they can stay in college and successfully graduate. Faculty and staff working directly with students are in a unique position to recognize when students are in distress and to direct them to resources, both on and off campus.

In mid-January, USU President Noelle Cockett emailed out a “Students in Distress” guide created in the past year by the Division of Student Affairs. This guide will help staff and faculty refer students, as well as provide more information about how to respond to those that are disruptive. The guide has also recently been tailored to faculty and staff who work across the state in the USU system.

Specific information for staff and faculty at USU Eastern, the Logan campus and regional campuses is available at http://studentconduct.usu.edu/sid/index.
