Farmers Feeding Utah Food Distribution Blitz Held in Seven Locations

By Julene Reese |

A recent donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Farmers Feeding Utah program will help aid those in need through a statewide food distribution blitz held Wednesday, May 19, at seven locations in Utah.

Early in the pandemic of 2020, many farmers had nowhere to send their commodities, while many Utah families faced economic issues and loss of income. Subsequently, the need for food assistance in Utah increased by 300 percent.

In April of 2020, Utah State University Extension partnered with Utah Farm Bureau and the Miracle of Agriculture Foundation to create the Farmers Feeding Utah program. The goal of the program is to serve farmers by supporting agriculture and to help people in need by providing food and nutrition.

Food distribution locations for the seven events include Layton Commons Park in Layton; Utah Valley University W1 Parking Lot in Orem; Oakley fairgrounds in Oakley; Deseret Peak Complex in Grantsville; the IFA Country Store parking lot in Richfield, the Duchesne County Centennial Event Center in Duchesne and the Garfield County Care & Share in Panguitch. All events are held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., except in Panguitch, which is from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Over the past year, individuals, agencies and businesses have supported the Farmers Feeding Utah miracle projects by providing over 1,100,000 pounds of food to more than 21,000 families, stocking 25 pantries throughout Utah and working with 25 farmers.
