Aggie Recreation Provides Virtual Summer Fun for Children

Utah State University’s Campus Recreation wants children to have fun and stay active this summer despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and has created the Aggie Rec Summer Fun program. The virtual camp experience is open for kids from kindergarten to sixth grade and runs monthly from May through August.

The Aggie Rec Summer Fun camp program provides activities for children to experience positive virtual group interactions right in their own home. Aggie Rec Camp counselors give the opportunity for fun adventures and create new lasting friendships through arts and crafts, as well as daily recreational activities through virtual meet-ups. The camp features weekly camp themes that include Around the World, Jumping into Summer, Animal Palooza, Movin’ and Groovin’ and Aggie Olympics, just to name a few. The monthly cost for May, June and July is $45 per child, and the monthly cost for August is $20 per child. A weekly subscription is also available at the cost of $15 per week, per child to provide for flexibility to accommodate varying summer plans. A pick-up for camp supplies is available every Monday morning from 9-11 a.m., at a no-touch drive-thru service outside of the Aggie Recreation Center on the main university campus in Logan.

“During these uncertain times, we wanted to provide something for the kids to do while at home with the parents to help keep them active and still find a way to enjoy their summer,” said Amanda Bray, assistant director of competitive sports for Campus Recreation.

The camp provides opportunities for children and parents to adjust to the limitations of the pandemic. The hope is that is provides constructive activities for children, while in turn giving parents a bit of a break, Bray said.

In order to provide a variety for the children enrolled in the camp, there are activities they can do on their own, as well as activities they can do together with their peers in virtual meet ups so they can socialize. There are also several family activity ideas included in the weekly packet ranging from geocaching to scavenger hunts, among others, to promote togetherness.
