Do you have questions about science careers? Join us for the Q&A event with faculty and graduate students. Mingle in our last session of the day, with hot chocolate and games.
Science Unwrapped: Computing with Honeybees

Inquiring minds of all ages are invited to Science Unwrapped, the public outreach program of USU's College of Science. Admission is free. Our Feb. 10 speaker is USU computer scientist Vladimir Kulyukin, who presents "Music, Traffic, Solar Harvests: Computing with Honeybees" at 7 pm in the Emert Auditorium (ESLC 130) of the Eccles Science Learning Center on the USU Logan campus. Dr. Kulyukin will speak for about half an hour and then invite questions from the audience. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments and hands-on STEM learning activities provided by student and community groups in the ESLC atrium. Feb. 10, 2023 Talk Description: According to USU computer scientist Vladimir Kulyukin, computation can unlock mysteries of honeybee behavior, how the bees' environment affects how they live, along with the "music" of bees' buzzing. Learn now artificial intelligence can transform hives into robots to monitor the health of these important pollinators.

Speaker: Prof. Daniel Harlow (MIT) Title: The black hole interior from non-isometric codes and complexity Abstract: I'll give an overview of recent ideas about the emergence of spacetime and the black hole information problem, in particular presenting a concrete framework for how Hawking's information problem might be resolved.

Rock-n-Fossil Day
Fair/Festival
An event for the public to come learn about the many parts of Geology. There will be kids activities such as fossil digs, creating pet rocks, and learning about the rock cycle. There will also be presentations, demonstrations, rock/fossil/mineral identification, and museum tours.
Science Senator Debate
Student Activities
All undergrads and graduate students in the College of Science are invited to a debate to get to know the candidates running for College of Science Senator for the 2023-24 academic year. Hosted by the student-led Science Council, the gathering will feature a Q&A, refreshments and will be broadcast to regional campuses.
