12th Annual Urban & Small Farms Conference

Conference/Seminar | Agriculture and Natural Resources

This conference is perfect for specialty crop producers engaged in direct marketing including CSAs, farmers markets, and other outlets as well as commercial growers that are seeking the most up-to-date research on crop production and pest management. We will also have workshops for beginning farmers and those who are deciding what they want to grow and how to develop their own marketing strategy and business plan. This event is FREE, but registration is required.

The Utah Women & Leadership Project invites you step into a world of inspiration and empowerment with its Women in Leadership: Executive Speaker Series. This series is a celebration of dynamic and influential women who have shattered glass ceilings in the corporate landscape in Utah. Join us for "Life of a Latinx Leader," a monthly event featuring informal talks by exceptional Latinx leaders. This month, Andy Gongora, an academic advisor at USU, will share his story about immigrating to the U.S. from Mexico as a young child, along with his academic and mental health struggles. LAEP Speaker Series: Justin Romeo, The Planning Lecture sponsored by Student APA

Reimagining the Streets About the Lecture: My talk, “Reimagining the Streets” will focus on my work at NYC DOT centered around using new and emerging practices and technologies to improve the way people experienced traveling and being in the built environment in New York City. This work has incorporated the use of new data sources, new methodologies, and new initiatives. I plan to share a bit of the journey, lessons learned along the way, and where I see the transportation world going in the future. Speaker Bio: Justin Romeo is the Director of Special Projects, in the Transportation Planning and Management Division of the New York City Department of Transportation. He is a transportation professional working to improve the mobility options that exiting within cities through the use of data, policy, and emerging transportation technologies. Justin has over 10 years of experience working in transportation planning and engineering in Chicago and New York City, and is always excited to discuss transportation mobility issues and solutions.

Contestants will be judged on their selection, knowledge and presentation of a favorite food. Be prepared to discuss your favorite food – why it’s your favorite, where you got the recipe, any special techniques used while preparing it, and anything you’d like to share about your favorite food. Come prepared to display your favorite food which was prepared beforehand and provide samples to the judges to taste. Enter as a team of 2 or individual.
