2nd Annual MLK Community Breakfast

Breakfast/Luncheon/Dinner

Utah State University’s Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion would like to invite you to attend our 2nd Annual MLK Community Breakfast. This event is designed to help us consider how we—both individually and collectively—can take an active role in making Utah State University and the Cache Valley community more welcoming and inclusive for all. Come meet our new assistant director Shelly Ortiz at our open social. This is an excellent opportunity to meet new people and learn about the wonderful work of the Latinx Cultural Center.

Aggies Walk the Walk

Special Event

Students, faculty, staff, and community members (led by USU Athletics) will silently walk from the USU Quad, down the Hello Walk, to the Wayne Estes Center to support MLK week. We do this walk on special occasions: luminary, graduation, and MLK week. The Walk is also a public way for a public service institution to help us reflect on our civic responsibility—both individually and collectively—toward the common good of every member of the Aggie Family, Cache Valley, and other communities throughout the state of Utah (more on our commitment to civic responsibility can be found in our strategic plan: Aggie Action, objective 3.4). Once we arrive at the Wayne Estes Center, we will play a 2-minute video highlighting the week’s significance. After the video, we will hear from USU Athletics leadership, USU President, and student leadership on the importance of MLK week at USU (15 to 25 minutes long). We will then encourage people to attend the Aggie Men’s Basketball game.

LGBT+ Allies on Campus Training

Workshop/Training

In this fast pace two hour training, participants will learn about microaggressions, terminology, and key issues that impact the LGBT+ community. Participants will have the opportunity to sign an allies pledge and receive an ally sticker. Registration is required to receive the zoom link.

Trans Allies on Campus Training

Workshop/Training

Trans/Nonbinary Allies on Campus aims to increase awareness and understanding of our trans/nonbinary community and further understand specific trans/nonbinary issues while training participants to stand with, and advocate for trans/nonbinary individuals. Participants will gain a basic understanding of sex, sexuality, and gender and how these concepts perpetuate microaggressions, discrimination policies, and daily biases. Prepare to dispel some common myths, laugh, and leave with the understanding that there is much work to be done in our community and you are part of the solution. Registration is required to receive the zoom link.
