Wildfire Website Available from USU Extension

In response to the extreme fire danger in Utah this year, Utah State University Extension has created a website with tips and resources for dealing with wildfires. The site, Fire.usu.edu, contains information on wildfire preparation, fire wise tips for the home, fire wise tips for the landscape, rangeland fire resources and USU Extension wildfire news.

According to Carolyn Washburn, Utah State University Extension family and consumer sciences associate professor, the site is part of the Utah Extension Disaster Education Network which is a link from the national Extension Disaster Education Network site. This resource provides disaster preparedness and recovery education for families through online courses and downloadable media presentations.

Washburn said the fire.usu.edu site was created as a location for residents to obtain information on a wide range of topics such as wildfire prevention tips, what to do if you are in your car during a wildfire and what to do with food that has been exposed to fire and smoke.

“Hopefully, we do not face a disaster,” she said. “However, when we are prepared for disasters, we can mitigate the loss and the fear. Understanding the possible disasters for your area will help you better prepare your family.”

In addition, the website contains information on preparedness, natural disasters and human-caused disasters as well as Utah emergency links.
