What's the BIG idea?
The office of Commercialization and Regional Development at Utah State University will visit the Regional Campus at Brigham City April 3, 2012, to engage faculty, students, staff and entrepreneurs on commercialization opportunities at USU.
“Our intent is to streamline the commercialization process by working with the talented faculty and staff of our Brigham City campus to capitalize on research and teaching endeavors resulting in intellectual property,” said Robert T. Behunin, VP for Commercialization and Regional Development at Utah State University.
Brigham City is the first stop on the commercialization tour at Utah State University. Plans are being put in place at each of the regional campus offices to emphasize the impact faculty and community members have on local and state economies.
On April 3, Joe Christison, a representative from the Commercial Enterprises team at Utah State University, will deliver two seminars aimed at increasing the awareness of opportunities for USU Brigham City faculty, students and community members. Workshops will be held in the Milton P. Miller room 162 at 195 W. 1100 S., Brigham City, Utah.
The first seminar, “Patents 101,” will be held 2:30 pm and is hosted by the Business Resource Center at USU Brigham City.
“We welcome any member of the public interested in gaining an introductory knowledge of patents,” said Christison. “Patents are only one of the avenues for protecting intellectual property developed through university research. Faculty members may not recognize that certain non-research activities can lead to intellectual property development.”
The second seminar, “Finding Commercial Opportunities in Academic Activities,” will be held at 4 p.m. and is hosted by Commercial Enterprises at Utah State University.
“We are excited to introduce our USU Commercial Enterprises team to faculty, students and staff at the Brigham City campus and continue to expand the land-grant research mission of our university,” said Behunin. “We have reached out to regional campus deans who have expressed support and interest for our initiative to reach out to university employees around the state to provide services they may not realize.”
