Volleyball Announces 2003 Schedule

Aggies will play 30 matches during the season, including 12 at home

Utah State's head women's volleyball coach Burt Fuller recently announced the 2003 schedule for the Aggie volleyball team. USU will play 30 matches on the season and host 12 at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, where Utah State has gone 31-11 over the past four seasons.

Among the opponents for the Aggies during the 2003 season will be one Final Four team in Hawaii and eight NCAA Tournament teams in Cal Poly, Kansas State, Long Beach State, Oral Roberts, Pacific, UC Santa Barbara and Utah along with the Rainbow Wahine.

Utah State will once again play 18 league matches this season with home and home series versus the other nine teams in the Big West Conference.

"We're looking forward to playing a lot of matches close to home during the preseason and giving our fans the opportunity to follow us," said Fuller. "Since the Big West Conference is always ranked as one of the top leagues in the country it will be important for us to play well against the quality teams we have on our schedule prior to starting league play."

Utah State will begin the year with a tournament at Weber State before opening its home season on Sept. 3 against Idaho State. USU will then play in back-to-back tournaments at Montana State and Hawaii before returning home to host Utah on Sept. 23. The Aggies first conference match of the season will take place at home on Sept. 26 against Idaho. Other squads who will visit the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum will be NCAA Tournament teams Cal Poly, Long Beach State, Pacific, and UC Santa Barbara. USU will also face in-state rival Brigham Young on the road on Nov. 25. The Aggies will finish the season by playing six of its last 10 matches away from home.

Utah State returns five starters and five letterwinners from last year's team that went 14-16 overall and finished in sixth place in the Big West with a 7-11 record.
