Utah State University Strives to Increase Breast Cancer Awareness

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States aside from on-melanoma skin cancer.

In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Utah State University’s Student Health and Wellness Center will provide information booths on the Taggart Student Center patio Oct. 5 and 6, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteers will be available to answer questions about breast cancer.

Informational pamphlets are offered, including a discussion of myths and facts of breast cancer, details on how to properly perform self breast examinations and the ABCs of breast health.

Those attending can enter a drawing for prizes, including movie tickets and key chains.

Students and faculty are asked to wear pink Oct. 5 and 6 to demonstrate support for those with breast cancer.

A goal of the USU activity is to inform the public about the prevalence of breast cancer. For information, contact the USU Student Health and Wellness Center. For event information, contact Ryan V. Barfuss, prevention specialist, USU Student Health Services, (435) 797-1540, Ryan.barfuss@usu.edu.
