Utah State University Presents Third Annual Jazz Night at the Sky Club

Utah State University’s Skyroom Restaurant will be transformed into a 1930s jazz night club Feb. 16 and 17 for the third annual Jazz Night at the Sky Club. The evening includes dining, jazz music and dancing, and all profits from the event support the Larry Smith Jazz Scholarship. A Student Dance Only night is Feb. 15.

“We invite guests to join us for a fabulous evening remembering the sights and sounds of the Big Band Era,” said Ann Marie Wallace, Jazz Night event director. “This special event is an exciting step back in time.”

The evening includes an array of gourmet cuisine, Wallace said. As the evening opens, the meal is accompanied by the sultry sound of the Becky Lafferty Foster/Charlie Malolo Duo. The duo is a Utah State student combo that combines vocals and nylon string guitar.

The dinner package includes a choice of appetizers.

“Among the delectable entrées is a three-pepper tenderloin of beef served with Bordelaise sauce, roasted garlic whipped potatoes and tied vegetables,” Wallace said.

Three other entrée choices are available, including a vegetarian offering. Guests can also enjoy a choice of specialty drinks that include Aggie sparkle, peaches and cream, Shirley Temple, Roy Rogers and Lime Rickey.

Following dinner, patrons can dance the night away. There will be familiar tunes of the Big Band era and several jazz vocalists. USU’s Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble, based in the department of music, will fill the club with the hits of Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Ella Fitzgerald and more.

The USU groups will be joined by guest of honor Larry Smith, former jazz educator and noted saxophonist.

Tickets are $36 and are available at the USU Ticket Office in the Smith Spectrum until Feb. 12.

The University Inn is offering a Valentine’s overnight package that includes tickets to the show, a night in a newly renovated room and a hot catered breakfast the next morning. A package for two is $146.95, before tax, and can be reserved at the University Inn toll free at 800-231-5634.
