Utah State University Now Offering Dietitian and Nutrition Services Through the Sorenson Center

Dietitian and nutrition therapy, which includes treatment for eating disorders, is now available in the Sorenson Center for Clinical Excellence on the Utah State University Logan campus.

Rachel Rood, who is both a registered and certified dietitian, collaborates with clients to develop a treatment plan that will best meet their needs and help them improve their health and their relationship with food. This individual nutrition therapy service in the Sorenson Center, which is available to children, teens and adults, can address multiple issues such as disordered eating, food allergies and intolerances, and food planning for those with ADHD, PCOS or IBS.

“I talk with clients about what their worries and challenges are, and we set goals together to address those,” Rood said.

Rood says that people often attach morality to food, believing in “good” and “bad” foods, feeling guilty about what they eat. She works with individuals’ needs and concerns, utilizing a non-diet, weight-inclusive approach. Rood emphasizes health at every size, along with intuitive eating principles, guiding her clients to “eat when you are gently hungry; stop when you are gently full.”

Those with a negative body image often think, “If I could just control my food and my exercise, I could look the way I want.”

Instead of believing that food is something that needs to be controlled, Rood helps clients to think in a more positive way—for example, “If I nourish and move my body, I can feel good about it, independent of how it looks.”

All services in the Sorenson Center are community services, and the dietitian and nutrition services are available on Mondays from noon-5 p.m.
