Utah State University Department of Music Hosts Faculty Chamber Concert

By Kate Stewart |

Utah State University’s Department of Music will host its Faculty Chamber Concert from 5-6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5.

This concert will showcase chamber music performances by USU faculty at the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. Entry is free to all. Additionally, the event will be live streamed at this YouTube link: Faculty Chamber Concert.

Jeiran Hasan, USU flute assistant professor is the coordinator and curator of this event

“Actually, most of the performers are not full-time faculty; only myself and Thomas Glenn are,” Hasan said, “Everyone else is a faculty associate or adjunct. Having them play on this concert is a wonderful way to have them involved, included, and for the community and our students to be able to hear them perform. This concert series exists to feature and highlight all of the faculty and staff in our music department, especially those that most students do not interact with on a day-to-day basis.”

According to Hasan, the concert program includes a variety of pieces from a diverse group of composers spanning a wide range of time periods including the Baroque to contemporary. The composers are from the countries of France, Russia, England and the United States.

The final piece of the concert is a world premiere entitled “Four Elemental Discourses,” composed by USU Faculty Associate Stephen Mitton.

Hasan said she hopes concert attendees will feel excited about hearing a diverse repertoire of composers from different countries. She also said that she hopes attendees may feel inspired to attend more USU music events after hearing the high quality and level of production that is happening within the school.

“We're absolutely booked almost every single day through the rest of the semester,” Hasan said. “We have both school of music events and private events that are coming up seriously almost every single day, practically like Monday through Sunday.”

Hasan said although this season is a really busy time for them, it’s also a super exciting time because there are so many performances happening.
