Utah State Offers Online Master's Degree in Career and Technical Education

Beginning fall 2013, Utah State University will offer a new, completely online, professional master of education degree in career and technical education.

The new degree option was designed specifically to meet the needs of practicing CTE educators and engage secondary and post-secondary educators in the CTE profession.

Required courses will be delivered entirely through an online format via the university’s Regional Campuses and Distance Education network, and the program can be completed in as little as two years, according to Debra Spielmaker, program committee chair and associate professor.

“This program provides educators the opportunity to advance their career and improve their teaching with the end result of increasing learning among their students,” Spielmaker said. “The cost-effective, online format allows educators to complete their degree from anywhere, online on their own time.”

Emphasis options for the degree include educational leadership, non-formal and adult education, and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Coursework may also be tailored to specific areas of specialization such as agricultural education, business education, family and consumer sciences education or technology and engineering education.

Students will determine their interest areas and design a focused program of study that includes core courses in adult education, advanced teaching strategies, assessment and evaluation, reading and applying research and program design.

Interested students will be permitted to take up to 12 credits within the program while completing admission requirements of USU’s School of Graduate Studies. More information can be found online.
