Utah State Blue Light Honors Utah Carnegie Professor
To demonstrate pride in the many accomplishments of Utah State University faculty, staff and students, the Aggie Blue Pride Light and Carillon Bells will be turned on Monday, Dec. 2, to honor professor Jan Sojka, the 2002 Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Utah Professor of the Year 2002.
Utah State will host a celebration in honor of Sojka Monday, Dec. 2, from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the Eccles Science Learning Center Atrium on the university campus. The event is free and everyone is invited. The Carillon Bells will ring at 4 p.m. to end the celebration.
Sojka, a physics professor, was honored for his interactive teaching style that includes getting his entire class out of their seats to participate in group demonstrations. The Carnegie Professors of the Year program salutes the most outstanding undergraduate instructors in the country. Sojka is the faculty advisor for the NASA Get Away Special project at Utah State, as well the assistant director for the Center of Atmospheric and Space Sciences, the co-associate director for the Rocky Mountain NASA Space Grant Consortium and the director for the Bear Lake Observatory.
The Aggie Blue Pride Light sitting atop Old Main lights the Cache Valley night sky as a symbol of Aggie tradition, heritage and pride. Sojka is a part of this heritage that contributes to the quality of Utah State.
