USU Year in Review Highlights Innovation and Impact

Utah State University has released its Year in Review publication, highlighting President Elizabeth Cantwell’s first year and USU’s continued excellence. The university's commitment to research, education and serving every Utah community is evident in the following highlights:

  • Research Excellence: USU set a record for sponsored research expenditures, reaching $405 million annually. This investment fuels groundbreaking research initiatives that address critical societal challenges.
  • Student Success: The university awarded more than $85.9 million in scholarships to 12,457 students, making a quality education more accessible for all Utahns. USU's dedication to student success is further demonstrated by the expansion of associate degree programs and seamless credit transfer options for students across the state. Both allow the university to train students in fields to meet workforce demands.
  • Community Impact: USU broke ground on the Veterinary Medical Education Building, which will soon house the state’s only degree program for veterinary medicine. This facility will train future veterinarians to care for Utah's livestock industry, which contributes $1.2 billion to the state's economy. Additionally, the university's commitment to serving rural communities and statewide expansion is reflected in the groundbreaking of the USU Monument Valley Education Building.

The highlights found in the USU Year in Review touch on the five pillars outlined in President Cantwell’s strategic framework to solidify the university as a leading institution providing a world class education:

  1. Focus on student success and enrollment/recruitment.
  2. Elevate research expenditures and impact.
  3. Expand the Statewide Enterprise.
  4. Increase operational modernization.
  5. Continue to offer expanded and relevant academic offerings.
