USU Uintah Basin Lecturer Named Department Lecturer of the Year

VERNAL, Utah — John Barton, principal lecturer at USU Uintah Basin, has been named the USU Department of History’s Lecturer of the Year.

“John’s recognition by the department as Lecturer of the Year is well deserved,” said David Law, associate vice president for USU Uintah Basin. “John is a passionate and inspiring teacher. His classes continue to be among the most popular courses offered at USU Uintah Basin.”

“Students sense John’s content passion as he eloquently weaves together historical stories that inspire them to think critically about historical content and how it impacts their current lives and world events,” Law said. “John loves his work and receives immense satisfaction knowing that he positively impacting the next generation of historians and professionals.”

Barton, who teaches courses in Utah, U.S., and Native American history, will now be considered for the College of Humanities and Sciences Lecturer of the Year award, which will be announced during the spring semester. He was overwhelmed with gratitude to receive the award.

"I am honored to be named Lecturer of the Year for the History Department," Barton said. “I work with so many amazing colleagues and scholars at USU. To have their recognition for the work I do, I could not be more humbled.”

Barton has been a lecturer at USU Uintah Basin since 1988. He holds a master’s degree in Western American history and a bachelor’s degree in history from Brigham Young University.
