USU Tooele Campus Receives $100,000 Gift for Science & Technology Building

In early December, Joe D. and Rosalie England made a $100,000 donation toward construction of an important new building planned for the Utah State University – Tooele campus. The funds are earmarked to construct and equip the planned $9.8 million, 33,000-square-foot science and technology building. This new addition to the Tooele campus will include a chemistry lab suite, two biology labs, an anatomy and physiology lab, a physics laboratory suite and a research lab, as well as classroom and office space.

Donna Dillingham-Evans, dean of USU Tooele, is ecstatic about the donation.

“Buildings like this would not be possible without the generosity of people like the Englands,” said Dillingham-Evans. “Their commitment to higher education in Tooele will benefit students for generations to come.”

The new building will make it possible for USU Tooele to offer a new biology degree and general education requirements for physical sciences and nursing. Perhaps the most exciting part about the new facility is that the new labs will be broadcast-enabled, meaning instructors in those labs will be able to broadcast their lessons and laboratories in real time to other USU campuses around the state. USU Tooele will be the origination point for many of the support courses in the sciences, providing science education access for remote populations as never before in Utah.

Additionally, the new facility will support general education science classes for undergraduate students, as well as classes for nursing students. 

Since making this generous donation, the Englands have embarked on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The remainder of the funding for the building will come from contributions from the City of Tooele and other private donors.
