The Utah State University College of Education and Human Services, the Department of Nursing and USU Tooele are excited to welcome two of their newest nursing faculty. Christine Rains and Lindsay Sundloff joined USU Tooele faculty as professional practice assistant professors in August.

Rains holds a master of science in nursing. Prior to joining USU Tooele, Rains worked as a registered nurse, working on the medical/surgical unit. She also has experience in pediatric and oncology nursing. As an instructor, she has taught medical/surgical concepts and has served as a lab and clinical instructor. She hopes to help grow the program at USU Tooele and to share her experiences and insights with students.

“The nursing profession is a dynamic field of practice that offers multiple areas of study and practice,” Rains said. “The profession encourages continued growth and development based on evidence-based practices in all areas of practice. In my position as an educator at USU, I have the opportunity to share my knowledge and continue on my professional growth path while serving the USU Tooele campus and community.”

Sundloff worked in marketing for more than 20 years before returning to school to receive her bachelor’s degree in nursing. She sees the nursing field as a field with vast opportunities and possibilities.

“From bedside nursing to informatics and education, there are so many possibilities within nursing,” Sundloff said. “Nursing also offers room for growth and continued education. My goals are to focus on adequately preparing our current nursing students for the competitive nursing field and to grow our local nursing program so that we can continue to expand and support our community’s needs.”

Carma Miller, department head of USU nursing, and Jenn Vancott Cowburn, associate vice president of USU Tooele, both expressed excitement at Rains and Sundloff joining the USU team.

“We warmly welcome these two outstanding additions to our program,” Miller said. “Their expertise and commitment to nursing education will undoubtedly take us to greater heights in nurturing the next generation of health care leaders.”

“Both Christine and Lindsay live here locally, surrounded by those they serve,” Cowburn added. “They have a deep affection for our Tooele community.
