Thanks to an anticipated new agreement with the National Student Exchange (NSE), Utah State University (USU) undergraduate students can now apply to take advantage of academic offerings from 160 colleges and universities throughout the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Administered by USU’s Office of Global Engagement (OGE), the NSE network can be leveraged by students to experience new campus environments, take unique classes or conduct research at a chosen campus for around the same cost as being at USU.

“Both study abroad and domestic study away can provide incredibly valuable experiences that can impact students personally, academically, and professionally for a lifetime,” said Katie Davidson, OGE’s Senior Study Abroad Advisor. “I have had profound experiences diving into vastly different cultures within the United States, and I’m so glad we are expanding our programming to provide this wonderful opportunity for students.”

Davidson said students can use domestic study away to expand their class options and perspectives while setting themselves apart for the job search process. They can study at an HBCU [Historically Black College or University] or HSI [Hispanic-Serving Institution]. They could continue an undergraduate research project or study at an institution they are interested in for graduate school. And, they could live in a big city, small town, or near the beach. She said a student could even learn Spanish in Puerto Rico or French in Québec.

Davidson noted the application date of Monday, February 21 is quickly approaching for priority placement for programs in the 22-23 academic year, and she can help interested students work through the process. Interested students can visit NSE.org or reach out to Katie directly at katie.davidson@usu.edu; 435-797-9674.
