USU Title IX Coordinator Shares Resources With Students

Cody Carmichael

Cody Carmichael joined Utah State University as the new Title IX coordinator in July. He sent this email to students to introduce himself, let students know about the university’s zero tolerance policy for sexual misconduct, and share information and resources to help anyone who experiences it.

To all our Aggies:

I am so excited to welcome you to a new academic year at Utah State University. If you’re back with us for another semester, we are happy to see you again. If you’re new to USU, thanks for joining us!

My name is Cody Carmichael, and I serve as the Title IX Coordinator here at USU. It is my responsibility to address any sex discrimination, including sexual misconduct, that occurs on our many campuses across the state. We want everyone’s USU experience to be a positive one, and to help achieve that goal, I must emphasize that the university does not tolerate any form of sexual misconduct.

Please know that if you do experience sexual misconduct, there are numerous resources available to you. If you wish to seek confidential help, you can contact USU’s Counseling and Psychological Services Office (CAPS) or the Sexual Assault and Anti-Violence Information Office (SAAVI). The individuals that work there are caring, trauma-informed staff members trained to assist you.

Additionally, you can report instances of sexual misconduct to USU Police and to the Office of Equity. If you choose to report to us here in the Office of Equity, you can do so online at equity.usu.edu/report, by email at titleix@usu.edu, stopping by our main office on the 4th floor of the Distance Education Building on the Logan campus, or by calling 435-797-1266.

We have an amazing team here in the Office of Equity capable of providing supportive measures, conducting investigations, and helping each and every person understand what options are available to them through our processes.

USU’s supportive measures specialists can help address any academic or safety concerns, help you access resources both on and off campus, and explain how to file a formal complaint in order to seek an informal resolution or a full investigation. You do not need to participate in a formal process to receive supportive measures.

USU strives to create a safe learning environment for each and every one of you — an environment free of sex discrimination and sexual misconduct. It takes all of us to achieve this goal, and we hope that each of you will participate in our sexual misconduct prevention programs. I wish you all a joyous and happy school year.

Sincerely,

Cody Carmichael, Title IX Coordinator
