By Emilie Wheeler |

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University is seeking nominations for the institution’s 2023 honorary degree recipients and the 2024 Commencement speaker. Students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community leaders are invited to nominate for these recognitions.

The university seeks nominations of individuals who have shown sustained activity of uncommon merit, who have achieved a prominent career nationally or internationally, or who have provided significant service beyond the typical expectations of their profession.

Nominations are due Nov. 7, 2022, and should include:

  • Completed application.
  • Short summary of the individual's qualifications, emphasizing those considered most meritorious.
  • Complete resumé or curriculum vitae.
  • Letters of recommendation.

Nominations should be kept confidential until a final decision is made by the Utah State Board of Trustees.

The USU Honorary Degree Screening Committee includes four members of the Board of Trustees, three faculty members, one member of the Alumni Council, the provost, and executive vice president. Its responsibility is to review all nominations and forward them to the Board of Trustees for final approval. The Board of Trustees Honorary Degree Awards and Recognition Committee is chaired by Trustees Vice Chair John Ferry and is responsible for presenting nominations for final approval in December.

A historical list of honorary degree recipients and commencements speakers can be found on the USU Board of Trustees webpage.
