LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University is seeking nominations for the institution’s 2025 honorary degree recipients and commencement speaker. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community leaders are invited to nominate for these recognitions.

Nominees should be individuals who have demonstrated sustained activity of uncommon merit, who have achieved a prominent career nationally or internationally, or who have provided significant service beyond the typical expectations of their profession.

This year, the Honorary Degree Nomination and the Commencement Speaker Nomination can now be easily submitted through online forms. Nominations are due Nov. 13.

The Screening Committee includes three members of the Board of Trustees — one of which will be the Alumni Council president, three faculty members, one additional member of the Alumni Council, a representative from the Provost Office and a member of the Utah State University Student Association.

This committee’s responsibility is to review all nominations and forward them to the Board of Trustees for final approval. The Board of Trustees Honorary Degrees, Awards and Recognition Committee is chaired by Alumni President and Trustee Heather Mason and is responsible for presenting nominations for final approval in January.

Honorary degree recipients for the 2024 commencement included Gail Miller, Co-Founder of the Larry H. Miller Company; Bruce Carlson, Retired General in the U.S. Airforce and Chair of the Space Dynamics Lab Board of Directors; and Darren Parry, Former Chair of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation. A historical list of honorary degree recipients and commencement speakers can be found on the USU Board of Trustees webpage.
