USU Salt Lake Faculty Member Named Department Teacher of the Year

SALT LAKE CITY — Bruce Boucher, lecturer and Professional MHR program director in the Jon M. Huntsman School of Business at Utah State University, has been named as the 2024 Management Department Teacher of the Year. Boucher teaches undergraduate and graduate human resource management courses at the USU Salt Lake Center. He will now be entered as a candidate for the college’s Teacher of the Year award.

“Bruce is extremely deserving of this recognition,” said David Vernon, associate vice president for USU Wasatch region. “His years of business experience and his dedication to his students make his courses extremely valuable and relevant to students. We are happy he is part of our campus in the USU Wasatch Region.”

Boucher teaches three different undergraduate courses and two graduate courses, teaching across all three delivery formats– in-person, broadcast, and online. Whether in person or online, students have expressed their appreciation for Boucher and his commitment to their success. He has also on several occasions offered a course to a handful of students to accommodate changes in their schedules, or for students needing a course to graduate on time.

Boucher joined USU in 2017 as a full-time lecturer and director of the human resources management program. Prior to this appointment, Boucher was a mission president in Puerto Rico for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Boucher began teaching human resources courses as an adjunct professor at USU for two years, beginning in 2013. He has more than 30 years of experience in the field as well, working as chief human resources officer for Extra Space Storage, as a human resources director for the Church of Jesus Christ, and as the co-owner of Roos Advisors.

Boucher earned his bachelor’s degree in international relations from Brigham Young University and a master’s degree in human resources from USU. He resides in Salt Lake City with his wife, Becky. Together, they are the parents of four children and eight grandchildren.
