USU President Stan L. Albrecht, in response to Stories about Sexual Assaults

Aug. 8, 2016

Despite numerous media and other allegations to the contrary, I would like to make one thing clear: Utah State University, its administration, and its faculty and staff share an absolute commitment to the well-being of our students. I think I can say unequivocally that in everything we do, we are guided by the principle that student welfare, in all aspects, is, and always will be, our most important mission and concern as a university.

I am deeply saddened by any occurrence of sexual assault on our campus, and I recognize the tragic impact it has on the lives of the victims.

An internal investigation is already under way to thoroughly examine every detail of how these matters were handled at USU. I am waiting for the close of that inquiry so I have all of the facts before taking any further action.

Please keep in mind that we don’t come to this after the fact. For many months prior to the recently reported allegations of multiple sexual assaults, USU has been working to have in place a model program designed to minimize the occurrence of these tragic events, but also to deal with them with the upmost care, concern and professionalism should they happen. USU has worked to be proactive at every level of our institution.

USU is and will remain committed to taking any necessary action to protect our students.”

Stan L. Albrecht, president, Utah State University
