USU Police Chief Takes Position at BYU-Hawaii

Michael Kuehn, Utah State University’s public safety director and university police chief, has accepted the position of public safety director for Brigham Young University-Hawaii and the Polynesian Cultural Center. His last day at USU is March 29. 

“We know this is a great opportunity for Chief Kuehn, not to mention it’s an opportunity located in Hawaii,” said USU President Noelle Cockett. “He’s been a great asset to our campus community the last few years, and we wish his family all the best for the future.”

Since joining USU in March 2017, Kuehn has forged collaborative relationships with on- and off-campus partners, secured new public safety software to better communicate with other law enforcement agencies and overseen improvements of USU’s emergency notification system. 

“He has served an integral role in the university’s efforts to address sexual violence, and he has continually advocated for everyone in our campus community being an Upstander and intervening when there is harm to other Aggies,” Cockett said. 

Capt. Kent Harris will step in as interim director of Public Safety while USU conducts a national job search to replace Kuehn. This position is expected to be filled by fall semester 2019.
