USU Outdoor Programs to Host 'Know Before You Go' Avalanche Awareness Presentation

LOGAN, Utah — With the onset of winter weather and just in time for the upcoming ski and snowmobile season, Utah State University’s Outdoor Programs and the Utah Avalanche Center (UAC) are hosting a free “Know Before You Go” avalanche awareness presentation. The presentation will be 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Aggie Rec Center and is open for all to attend.

UAC forecasters will be at the presentation to answer questions and share helpful information that could help outdoor enthusiasts manage avalanche risk and enjoy the winter wonderland of Utah’s mountains.

“Know Before You Go is a free avalanche awareness program,” said Paige Pagnucco, a forecaster at the UAC. “Not much science, no warnings to stay out of the mountains, and no formulas to memorize. In one hour, you will see the destructive power of avalanches, understand when and why they happen, and how you can have fun in the mountains and avoid avalanches.”

“Know Before You Go” introduces outdoor enthusiasts to avalanche safety with some simple steps they can take to stay safe and have fun in avalanche terrain.

The “Know Before You Go” presentation is supported by several local companies and community organizations including Beaver Mountain, Grassroots Powdersurfing, Al’s Sporting Goods, Young Powersports, USFS: Logan Ranger District, Cache County SAR, Stokes Nature Center, Common Ground, and Nordic United.
