LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University has named Katie Kamachi as director of Academic Advising for Statewide Campuses.

Kamachi joins USU after earning her Ph.D. in Global Leadership & Change from Pepperdine University. Most recently, she was the Online Faculty & Student Success Manager at UNLV.

In her new role, Kamachi will work with Mykel Beorchia, executive director of University and Exploratory Advising, acting as a liaison between academic advising and campus partners and ensuring advisors have the resources they need to support student growth and success.

“Dr. Kamachi will be an immediate contributor to improving the student experience through academic advising,” Beorchia said. “Dr. Kamachi understands the critical role academic advisers play in student success and has experience implementing initiatives designed to maximize student potential.”

Kamachi has several years of teaching experience and has been working in higher education since 2012. She began as an academic adviser at Dixie State in the Udvar-Hazy College of Business, working as the primary adviser to student-athletes and veterans. In 2013, she advanced to become a program adviser, tasked with identifying personal student needs and advising students on academic plans, schedules, career goals and other activities to support their academic decision-making process.

In 2016, Kamachi served as the Interim Director of Student Success, providing leadership, guidance and strategic direction for a range of first-year student programs related to onboarding, retention and orientation. She also implemented events, programs and projects to address relevant issues within the student body and facilitated communication between students and the administration.

“Katie’s passion for student success is evidenced by her many professional accomplishments,” said Andrea Olding, assistant vice president for Statewide Campuses. “She brings years of experience and vision to the position, and I am confident that under her leadership, Statewide advisers and success coordinators will thrive.”

Throughout her tenure at Dixie State, Kamachi has also worked as a professor at the college, first as an adjunct professor in business, management and first-year experience, then as a visiting instructor of the practice of business.

Kamachi has three daughters. The oldest, Mia, is currently attending Utah Tech University and will graduate in Pre-Athletic Training in spring 2023. Her middle daughter, Kiana, is a junior at Snow Canyon High School and is currently looking at colleges and law schools. Her youngest, Ava, is a freshman at Snow Canyon Middle School. Kamachi loves the outdoors, hiking, going to the lake or any beach, and going to any and all sporting events. She enjoys cooking and eating great food, traveling and spending time with her daughters.
