USU Libraries Becomes Regional Depository for Nevada State Library

Utah State University Libraries is now a regional depository for Nevada selective libraries as part of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The agreement was formally approved on Dec. 11, 2019. 

The Government Information Program, part of USU’s Special Collections and Archives, will now coordinate with Nevada Libraries to provide public access to current and historic government documents.
    
“Becoming a regional depository for Nevada State Library has been in the works for over a year,” USU Libraries Government Information Librarian Jen Kirk said. “The agreement required support from USU, all participating Nevada depositories, the Superintendent of Documents at the Government Publishing Office and a U.S. senator from both Nevada and Utah.”

Nevada State Library approached USU to become the regional depository for Nevada after recent changes in the FDLP encouraged the creation of multi-state depositories.

“The expansion promotes greater access to the regional collection across the Intermountain West,” Kirk said. “USU has been a federal depository since 1907, fulfilling part of its land-grant mission.”

USU Libraries has served as the regional federal depository library for Utah since the early 1960s, meaning USU libraries maintains an extensive collection of approximately 1.4 million documents for Utah’s eight selective depositories. This is overseen by Kirk, two staff members and four student staff assistants.
