USU's LAEP Students Create Designs for Ogden Valley for Annual Charrette
Members of the public are invited to an open house for the 2014 Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning Charrette Wednesday, Feb. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the Utah State University Logan campus in Fine Arts-Visual, Room 221.
The open house includes presentations and more than 40 posters developed by LAEP students concerning their plans to investigate the growth and development issues in Ogden Valley, this year’s focus area. Ogden Valley is a mountain valley bisected by the Ogden River in the mountains east of Ogden City. The rural communities of Eden and Huntsville are located there.
The charrette is a project in which groups of LAEP students take an in-depth look at planning and design issues for a certain area. Students are split into teams, led by seniors, and are assigned a topic or issue. By the end of the week each team addresses its given issue and is prepared to present its ideas to residents and community members of the area.
Possible topics for the Ogden area include new housing, conservation, agriculture, open space preservation, wildlife habitat and resorts, as well as areas like Snow Basin, Pineview Reservoir and Huntsville.
USU’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning is a part of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.
