USU Jazz Orchestra & Jazz Ensemble to Perform Big Bands Concert

By Kate Stewart |

The Utah State University Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble will present their concert "Big Bands" from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Nov. 29.

The concert will take place at the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall at USU.

Three times a school year, the USU Jazz Orchestra and USU Jazz Ensemble perform selections from classic and contemporary jazz, rock and pop music.

According to Max Matzen, USU music (trumpet) associate professor, concert attendees can anticipate hearing the best jazz students in the region and previewing the USU Jazz Orchestra’s repertoire they will perform in Europe in 2024.

“The USU Jazz Orchestra has been invited to return to Europe this summer,” Matzen said. “We will be playing some of the most prestigious jazz festivals in Switzerland as well as Italy (Estival Festival as well as Umbria).”

Additionally, Matzen said he is most looking forward to showing off the students with this performance.

“The USU Jazz Orchestra is an award-winning ensemble that is one of the best in the region,” he said.

Matzen hopes concert attendees may feel happy and surprised (in a good way) upon attending Big Bands.

For those unable to attend this performance in person, it will be livestreamed on the Caine College of the Arts YouTube channel — visit ccapresents.usu.edu.
