USU Interfaith Initiative in National Spotlight

Dr. Bonnie Glass-Coffin was asked to write a blog for the 'Huffington Post.' Her last post highlighted USU’s own Interfaith Initiative, an effort Glass-Coffin leads.

As stereotypes about people of faith continue to fuel misunderstanding and even violence around the world, programs that build capacity for interfaith cooperation are now more urgently needed than ever, according to Utah State University anthropology and religious studies professor Bonnie Glass-Coffin. And, thanks to Glass-Coffin’s efforts, USU’s own Interfaith Initiative, which was created to “promote positive interaction among people who orient around religion differently,” is gaining national attention.

Glass-Coffin was recently invited by the Huffington Post to write about the initiative, which she spearheaded on USU’s campus in 2014. Her latest post shares how USU students, faculty, administrators and community faith leaders are building community across “faith-divides” on USU’s campus. One recurring campus event in particular (called “speed-faithing”) has helped members of USU’s campus community learn to share their religious convictions with others while building capacity for listening appreciatively and with respect to those whose convictions are different than their own.

Professor Glass-Coffin’s HuffPost article can be found online. To follow the USU Interfaith Initiative on Facebook, see its website. The initiative is on Twitter as well.
