USU Hosts Zoom Education Summit

By Ryan Hobbs |

The first U.S. Zoom Education Summit took place Wednesday, May 10, on Utah State University's Logan Campus.

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University partnered with Zoom and other Zoom integration technology partners to host the first U.S. Zoom Education Summit on the Logan campus on Wednesday, May 10.

More than 70 participants from higher education institutions, systems and organizations across the Intermountain West, and as far away as Texas, attended. Several USU alumni, including company product and sales leaders at Zoom, shared insights into their education roadmap as part of the event.

The idea of the summit was conceived during a partnership meeting with Zoom at the company’s headquarters in San Jose, California, in January.

“Since our initial discussions, Zoom has been an incredible partner in organizing this inaugural event,” said Ryan Hobbs, USU associate vice president for Digital Learning and Innovation. “We value our close partnership with Zoom in helping to design innovative, digital learning environments at USU.”

During the event, participants experienced various instructional technologies in the Classroom Innovation Lab and pilot classrooms in the Distance Education building. Many of these technologies will be incorporated into 400-plus classrooms and meeting spaces across the USU system beginning this summer. Participants were also able to connect with vendors, who were onsite to address questions about their products and upcoming feature releases.

“Our partnership with Zoom (and other technology partners), will enable USU to continue to provide an interactive, high-quality learning environment that now provides choice of where students participate — in-person, virtually, or both,” said Robert Wagner, USU executive vice president. “This technology will help provide greater access to USU for learners across the state (and beyond). The summit demonstrates USU’s commitment to collaboration, innovation, and student success.”

Based upon interest for the summit, USU and Zoom are planning to make this an annual event.
