USU Hosts Scholars from 24 High Schools in Annual Academic Olympiad

Utah State University welcomed students from 24 northern Utah high schools to the Logan campus on January 31 for the 2024 Academic Olympiad. 212 students demonstrated their academic skills by participating in four timed assessments in the areas of math, science, language arts, and social studies.

“The 2024 Academic Olympiad was a great way for high school students to exhibit and be honored for their academic excellence,” said Max Longhurst, professional practice associate professor and USU NUCC representative. “It is always fabulous to collaborate with teams, coaches, and districts across Northern Utah. It was a highlight to have Utah First Lady Abby Cox speak at the event. As always, the Battle for Olympus showed the students' enthusiasm and excitement for the Academic Olympiad.”

After testing, teams cheered each other on in a spirited academic bowl style event. In each category, gold, silver, and bronze awards were given to both individual students and schools who finished in the top three of each category.

The collaboration between the Northern Utah Curriculum Consortium (NUCC) and USU began in 1985. This partnership has continued to honor the academic skills of Northern Utah high school students.
