The annual spring Guitar Ensembles concert is Monday, April 10, at 7:30 p.m. in the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. The concert showcases USU guitar students playing a variety of styles ranging from rock, funk, jazz, classical and other genres on both acoustic and electric guitars.

“There’s something for everyone at this concert,” said Corey Christiansen, head of the guitar program in the Caine College of the Arts. “Any guitar lover will appreciate the program.”

The Guitar Ensembles Concert has been a tradition at USU for more than 35 years and brings a unique and varied sound to the Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall. Next week’s concert features guest artist Danny Gottlieb, one of the most popular drummers in jazz and contemporary music, with the electric guitar ensembles.

Although best known as the drummer in the original Pat Metheny group, Danny has performed and recorded with some of the world’s greatest musicians, including Bobby McFerrin, Sting, The Blues Brothers, and Chick Corea. He is featured on more than 300 CDs, including four Grammy Award winners. Gottlieb is also a professor of jazz studies at the University of North Florida and has released an acclaimed drum set textbook and multiple educational DVDs.

The CCA’s Christiansen has also performed with Gottlieb recently. As members of Chuck Owen’s new band, The Resurgence, Christiansen and Gottlieb completed a new album with Owen, along with Grammy-nominated artists Sara Caswell and Kate McGarry.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 seniors and free for USU faculty, staff, and students, and children ages 8-17. For more information and tickets, visit the CCA Box Office located in room L-101 of the Chase Fine Arts Center on USU’s campus, call 435-797-8022 or go online at cca.usu.edu.
