USU Football Has Arrived, Show Your Aggie Pride
Utah State University HURD President Varuna Ponnamperuma wants everyone to show Aggie pride and wear Aggie blue on Fridays before all USU football games. He sends this message to everyone in the Aggie community:
“It’s finally here. The offseason has come and gone. The seniors have graduated and a new crop of freshman has arrived. The smell of autumn and a little bit of a chill are in the air while the summer months fade away with the changing colors of the leaves.

“This can mean only one thing … game day is upon us.
“It’s time to abandon any and all past loyalties you may have had and take your rightful place alongside your fellow Aggies at Romney Stadium this fall. After all, you are indeed an Aggie now.
“Utah State offers so much both socially and academically, which must be precisely why you are here in the first place. With that being the case, embrace it. Take everything Utah State has to offer and live it to the fullest. Commit yourself to everything Aggie, and do your part to make this place even better than it was when you arrived. If you do, not only will you leave this place in better shape than you found it, you will also make it much more enjoyable for yourself during your time here.

“Somewhere, somebody is planning how they will execute their Saturday pre-game tailgate party to perfection. Somewhere, somebody is figuring out just how early they’ll have to wait at the Romney Stadium gates to get that front row seat in the student section. Somewhere, someone is doing every last bit of homework on this year’s Aggie team to tune up their football knowledge before the Aggies storm onto Merlin Olsen Field for the first time in 2010.
“All of this for one simple, yet monumental occasion … game day.
“The students will be out in full force to pack the lower bowl of the east side of the stadium, while the Cache Valley locals and USU alumni fill the rest. The Aggie Marching Band and Spirit Squad will lead the crowd as the Utah State fight song is sung in unison throughout the stadium, and arms will sway back and forth in a sea of fans performing ‘The Scotsman.’
“Romney Stadium will overflow with energy as the team charges out onto the field together for the first time and again leading up to the opening kickoff. Anything less than deafening levels is unacceptable as the opposing team lines up for a third-down on offense, and the same goes for when the Aggies reach the end zone.
“This is what makes college football the event that it is. This is why there is no better place to be than at Utah State. This is what brings Aggies together in larger numbers than anything else…this is game day.”
