USU's Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services in Top 25

U.S. News and World Report magazine has again named the graduate programs in Utah State University’s Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services among the top tier of colleges of education in the nation.

In the 2014 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools,” the magazine ranked the college 24th in the nation overall against all graduate colleges of education. This is the second year the college has been ranked 24th. Of significant note, the college was ranked fourth in the nation in total research dollars received by a college, with faculty and staff securing $42.8 million in funded research dollars. It is the only school of education in Utah to place in the top 50.

One program in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation was ranked in the top 10 programs nationally. The department’s Rehabilitation Counseling Program was ranked ninth in the nation for the second year in a row.

“While it is certainly an honor to once again be recognized for our continued commitment to providing an excellent standard of education, it comes as no surprise to the faculty, staff and students here who see the remarkable impact of our program on a daily basis,” said Beth Foley, dean of the Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services. “For well over a decade now, our college has been singled out as one of the best schools of education on this prestigious list, and it is not an accomplishment we take lightly. We will continue to work hard to make sure we remain a fixture on this list for years to come.”

The U.S. News & World Report bases its rankings on a weighted average of 10 quality measures, including peer assessments, faculty resources, faculty awards and GRE scores for doctoral students.

Faculty in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation are nationally known in their specialty areas, and master’s and doctoral students in the programs are heavily recruited across the nation, said department head Ben Lignugaris-Kraft.

“This faculty expertise and the exceptional quality of our graduates enhance our reputation nationally, and the rankings reflect the high regard our programs have among peers and professionals in the field,” he said.

The Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services at Utah State University is committed to offering high quality graduate and undergraduate programs in education and human services that are innovative and widely accessible.
