USU College Trains Students for Top Social Service Jobs

USU's Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services prepares students for the top five human service careers and employment rates are high.

Utah State University’s Emma Eccles Jones College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) prepares students for the top five human service careers. Not surprisingly, the college’s latest employment rates for those jobs are very high.

School psychologist ranked as the #1 job in the social services category (#17 overall).

Other top jobs supported through training in CEHS in social services were speech-language pathologist (#2), elementary school teacher (#3), high school teacher (#4) and middle school teacher (#5).

Employment rates for recent graduates in those fields are also good. Speech-language pathology and school psychology graduates enjoyed a 100 percent job placement rate over the last few years according to figures from the Psychology and Communicative Disorders and Deaf Education departments at USU.

Utah State University’s certified teacher education graduates had an overall job placement rate of 94 percent among respondents who sought employment. That includes 100 percent placement in 13 secondary education fields as well as 97 percent placement of elementary education teachers.

Teacher employment figures are based on an internal survey conducted in 2014 by the University Council of Education at Utah State University.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings are based on median salary, job prospects, employment rate, 10-year growth volume, 10-year growth percentage, stress level and work-life balance.
