LOGAN, Utah — The Utah State University Center for Community Engagement and the Office of the Provost have announced the inaugural Faculty Fellows in Community Engagement program.

The Faculty Fellows program will further bolster the connection between the CCE (student affairs) and faculty (academic affairs) which is necessary for continued growth and success as an institution that is committed to community engagement.

According to Larry Smith, USU provost and chief academic officer, “The new community engagement faculty fellows program reflects USU’s strong commitment to the principles and importance of community engagement which earned USU the prestigious Carnegie Community Engagement Classification.”

A chief target in this effort is broadening the pool of USU faculty leadership in community-engaged teaching and research. If more USU faculty leaders are identified, mentored, and recognized for their high-quality community engagement, the impacts are cumulative. More students benefit from high impact teaching practices, communities benefit from meaningful university-community partnerships, and the institution benefits by a deeper fulfillment of its land-grant mission.

Two Faculty Fellowships in Community Engagement are scheduled to begin in January of 2024. Selected faculty will serve for 2-year terms and receive two course buy-outs. Faculty Fellows will help advance Community-Engaged Learning (CEL) course development, Community-Engaged Research, and Community-Engaged Departments, and also mentor and train new faculty on CEL pedagogy.
