USU Brigham City Announces Year of the Woman Photo and Essay Contests

To support Utah State University’s Year of the Woman, USU Brigham City is involving local high school students in Box Elder County with a photo and an essay contest. The goal is to creatively promote and celebrate the accomplishments of women in the community, both historically and current.

“The Year of the Woman theme is a great opportunity to remember and recognize the great influence and impact of women in our society,” said Dan Black, associate vice president of USU Brigham City. “We hope to have a lot of entries and that it will help foster a culture of gratitude and equality in our communities.”

Entrants in the photo contest must submit their own work and focus on the theme, “Women’s Accomplishments and Social Impacts.” The photos must highlight the life, dreams and/or achievements of women in Box Elder County. The submissions will be displayed and voting will take place Thursday, Feb. 13, from 3-4:30 p.m., in the Student Services Building at 989 South Main Brigham City. The winner will take home a professional camera.

The essay contest celebrates the voting rights and commemorates Utah’s role in women’s suffrage. There are two prompts to choose from, and the essay must be 500 to 700 words. The winner will take home an Apple iPad Mini.

Each contest is only open to high school students in Box Elder County, with a deadline entry occurring on Feb. 1. A complete list of requirements and rules, including how and where to submit entries can be reviewed by visiting brighamcity.usu.edu/yotw-contest.
