USU Bioregional Forum to Discuss Future of Landscape Issues
Utah State University’s Department of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning will host Future Landscape Directions, the second annual Bioregional Planning Forum. The event is a chance to discuss the future of landscape and the role of bioregional planning in shaping the future.
The event will be held on the USU campus in the Fine Arts Visual building room 210, Monday, October 16 from 4:30-6 p.m.
Laura Ault, Utah Sovereign Lands Program Coordinator for the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire and State Lands, will speak about public lands in Utah. Ryan Perkl, a senior consultant and green infrastructure lead at Esri, will discuss enabling apps for bioregional planning. Christina von Haaren, professor at the Institute of Environmental Planning at Leibniz University in Hanover, Germany, will speak on landscape planning for a sustainable energy transformation. Carl Steinitz, emeritus professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and honorary professor at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London, will discuss negotiation as a design method. Rob Thayer, emeritus professor of landscape architecture at University of California-Davis, will discuss the bioregion as a bridge across the great American divide.
“The speakers are really top-notch people in the profession,” said Barty Warren-Kretzschmar, assistant professor and the organizer of the event. “Everyone should look forward to hearing their ideas and insight into the landscape issues of the future and how planners can address them.”
