USU Art Museum Celebrates the Art of Fashion: Designs Inspired by NEHMA

LOGAN — The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art at Utah State University will host a reception for “The Art of Fashion: Designs Inspired by NEHMA.”

The exhibition features half-scale fashion created by USU students in FCSE 3040 Advanced Clothing Studies: Pattern Making, taught by Melissa Clark. Each design was inspired by a work of art on view at The Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art.

The design process for this exhibition required some effort from students. Concept ideation, sketching, pattern drafting and manipulation, sourcing of textiles, notions, and embellishment techniques, as well as sewing, constructing, and fitting the ferment were all requisites for a finished item to showcase.

The Art of Fashion reception will take place from 5-6:30 p.m. March 31 at the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art. Attendees can speak with designers, view designs inspired by art in the museum, and enjoy light refreshments in the Study Center. All are welcome to this public event.

“These USU student projects are a great example of how the museum can be a resource in non-traditional ways,” said Katie Lee-Koven, NEHMA director. “Students choose an artwork on view that speaks to them, they research it, and develop these incredibly thoughtful fashion garments. We love exhibiting them beside the artwork with a label written by the student so that you can understand their creative process.”

NEHMA is located on the USU Logan campus and is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Visiting the museum is free of charge, and NEHMA offers free visitor parking in the lot behind the Russell/Wanless Hall.
